The Upstate offers a superb quality of life. Affordable land, low taxes, low crime rate and cost of living make it an ideal place to live. Our average January High/Low temperature is 50/31 F, while our average July High/Low temperature is 88/68. We receive approximately 50 inches of rain per year.
Outdoor lovers can hike or bike on mountain trails, discover magnificent waterfalls, camp, whitewater raft down the Chattooga River, and explore the Sumter National Forest or one of our many state parks. Sportsmen count South Carolina as one of the best destinations for hunting. With the longest whitetail deer season in the nation, hunting opportunities abound.
Lakes Hartwell, Keowee, Jocassee and Russell offer over 108,000 acres of surface area and over 1,800 miles of shoreline. You can spend countless hours fishing, boating, swimming and relaxing.
The Upstate is home to the magnificent Jocassee Gorges. This heavily forested area contains over 43,500 acres of protected land that surround beautiful Lake Jocassee. These gorges, their streams, and the more than 75 inches of precipitation a year, make
this area unique among mountain settings in the eastern United States.
Horse lovers will be glad to know that the Upstate excels in equestrian sports. It is where you will find the Garrison Arena. This 100-acre complex has both indoor and outdoor arenas and is the largest equestrian facility of its kind in the southeast.
Golf in the
Upstate is second to none with over 125 golf courses in the area. The Upstate is also home to the annual celebrity BMW Charity Pro-Am Golf Classic.
While outdoor opportunities abound, the area is rich in cultural activities as well. Southern Living magazine recently named Greenville its “City of the Arts”. The city’s Peace Center hosts Broadway plays and world class concerts. Downtown Greenville has many unique shops and offers outstanding dining. Top rated schools such as Furman, Clemson and Anderson University are located in the Upstate and provide academic and cultural events for their communities.
